Tree top climbing

So there I was at Hanmer Springs camp standing right under the sky high trees ready to do tree top climbing. I was petrified, I had never done this before. As the instructor strolled over to tell us the instructions I was thinking to myself I can do, it I just need to get this over and done with.

She told us the instructions and as always that took forever!! She finally finished and said that we could get our gear on. I went over to get my harness and helmet on. When I had finally done that I decided to go first up the tree.

When I was finally ready Charlie realised there was something wrong with my helmet so we had to go change it. When I put the other helmet on it was too big so I tried another one, that one was too tight and so I tried another, it was too big then the instructor realised that she had a spear in the garage and went and got it. I was now ready to climb.

I took a deep breathe and put a foot on the ladder then another until I got to the end of the ladder. A shiver ran down my spine. I started to climb up the wooden steps. When I got up I looked down, it felt like I was on the top of the Eiffel Tower. The children looked like seeds to me from up here. When I got down I was still shivering with fear.

At the end of the day I was glad that I did it and achieved climbing up a tree for the first time.

My writing reflection
In my writing I have used a simile when
I said “the children looked liked little seeds
to me.”

I am going to work on making my
writing a bit more descriptive by adding
 more strong verbs.
